I'm a passionate, experienced developmental editor who knows how to see the heart of your story, draw out your unique author voice, and bring your story worlds to life! I focus on your characters' unique desires and struggles to help you craft an engaging, emotionally-compelling story that grabs your readers and converts them into life-long fans.
I specialize in character-centric developmental edits of science fiction and fantasy novels, including space opera, fantasy (all sub-genres) and steampunk, but have edited everything from romantic comedies to action thrillers.
My rates are $0.05/word for developmental edits and follow-up line edits. I also offer manuscript assessments (a full read-through and several pages of notes) for $0.015/word.
NOTE: My 2019 editing schedule is booked and I am now scheduling into 2020. However, I am still booking manuscript assessments.

"Working with Katie was a dream! She was kind and supportive, while still very knowledgeable, capable and professional. She understood the soul of my project and was able to equip me with the tools to sculpt it into something beautiful. I'd highly recommend any author looking to tighten up their story or craft to consult Katie!"
"Katie goes out of her way to understand my message and get on the same page with me. She knows just the right questions to ask to help me take my characters from static concepts to living, breathing individuals who leap off the page. I would trust Katie with any story I’ve written, and I believe I’ve become a better writer through her honest evaluation of my work."
“Before working with Katie, I had a really good book. After working with Katie, I have a fantastic book that I'm so much more confident will be published! I've read books on craft. I've attended conferences and classes and listen to lots of lectures on how to write a good book. But nothing compares to having an expert apply all things craft to your personal manuscript! Why don't we, as writers, take our talent more seriously and invest in something that will not only shape our current manuscript, but will also spill over into our writing for the rest of our lives?"
